THERE IS A PLACE FOR YOU IN SBNS!

Leadership Institute - Education

"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other."
-John F. Kennedy

The Leadership Institute sponsors an annual intensive leadership experience, on-going leadership education, a mentorship program and serves as a forum for the development of solutions to health care problems. The questions that we are tackling are integral to the future of the nursing profession: How can nurse leaders that are adept at handling the changing face of nursing be developed? How can nurses educate and engage the community in solving the crisis that health care is facing? If you are up to the challenge of helping us answer some of those questions through planning seminars, focus groups, and other educational initiatives, please click here.

Leadership Institute- Mentorship Program

"The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires."
-William A. Ward

The Mentorship Program is an initiative of the Nursing Leadership Education/Leadership Institute division of SBNS. The idea behind our program is, "Why reinvent the wheel?" There are many nursing leaders that have a wealth of information that they can pass along to up-and-coming nurses. SBNS designates 3 general types of participants in its mentorship program: 1) New Nursing Mentees, 2) Mid-level Mentors, and 3) Senior-level Mentors. New Nursing Mentees are paired with Mid-level Mentors. Mid-level Mentors are paired with Senior-level Mentors, who are well established in their career paths. New Nursing Mentees are typically recruited by SBNS's partnership with the Theta Tau chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. Mid-level and Senior-level Mentors are nominated by current participants based on their proven leadership skills.

Additionally, each year, the Mentorship Program provides networking opportunities through events such as the annual Mentorship Celebration Dinner and "Meet and Greet" dinners throughout the year. If you are interested in becoming involved, please click here.

Community Awareness

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
-Margaret Mead

We believe in the power of nursing-nurses make a difference in our lives. We believe in the power of leadership - leaders make a difference in our communities. We believe in the power of nursing leadership - nurse leaders can revolutionize our world. That is the message that SBNS is hoping to convey this year in the medical community and our community at large. The mission of the SBNS Community Awareness Committee is two-fold. First, the committee wants to educate the community about the complexities of the problems that we face, how it affects everyone in the community and how our community can be engaged in solving the problem. Secondly, the society wants to provide a platform to open the dialogue in this community to talk about how we can address the issues of shortages within the nursing profession.

The SBNS Speaker's Bureau is our current initiative to address theses goals. If you are interested in having a member of the SBNS Speaker's Bureau speak at one of your events, click here. If you are interesting in becoming a volunteer speaker, click here.

Fund-raising

"Donors don't give to institutions. They invest in ideas and people in whom they believe."
-G. T. Smith

In the Fall of 2001, the Association For Healthcare Philanthropy printed an article entitled, "The Nursing Imperative: Can Fund Raising Help Overcome the Nursing Shortage?" The answer to the question was yes, and SBNS firmly believes that raising money is an integral part of solving the nursing shortage problem. With the money that we raise, we fund SBNS initiatives and scholarships. If you are interested in volunteering on this integral committee, please click here.
